My youth was spent mostly outdoors playing one sport or another. I was either playing in a recreation league or in the neighborhood sports spot which happened to be in our front yard. Running, catching, tackling, and falling down a lot. There was little sympathy in our circle when someone fell down. All anyone cared about was that we got back up and kept the game moving. It was uncomplicated. I would learn that falling down in the adult world was not so simple.
Over the years I have witnessed people fall down in all aspects of life. I have watched pastors who couldn’t take the pressures. I have witnessed men and women come to points in their lives where they felt their only option was in the extreme. Marriages fall, kids fall, churches fall. Even when we do everything seemingly the right way, we find life isn’t always fair. However different and more complex the adult world may be, we still must see that getting up is still an option. As a matter of fact, it is still the best option.
This is not a motivational speech where I tell you to just believe in yourself. Trust me, believing in oneself is fine, but it will not save you. There is only one hope. Isaiah 40:31 says “…but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” In other words, they will GET UP!
Don’t let your failures and falls define you. Put your hope in the Lord and let Him put new life in you. There is nothing working for us when we stay down. Get up and live in the hope and grace that He provides.
