Have you ever given a gift to someone and immediately knew by the look on their face that it is not something that they want? Even worse, have you ever tried to get the latest trendy thing for your kid only to hear them say “that’s not the one I wanted!” ? It is disheartening, to say the least. If you are like me, you have also been on the receiving end of this as well. I hope and pray that in those moments I have proven to be gracious.
One area in which I have not always been very gracious or grateful is when God gives me answers or words that I don’t particularly want to hear. Throughout time and history, He has proven to have a propensity for this. It is almost like He thinks He knows what is best for us more than we do! The nerve of Him! I mean just because He created us and shaped us and wired us and breathed life into us…I am sure you can see where I am going with this.
While true that we don’t always like His answers, it really becomes a place to exercise our faith and trust. It is easy to follow Him when we are hearing what we want. It is another thing to follow when we would rather go a different direction. I am convinced that breakthroughs and miracles happen more when we choose to follow Him. I am working hard to remember He is God and I am not.
I hope if you are in a season where you don’t like what you are hearing from on high, you will consider simple obedience. It is that simple act of faithful obedience in Him that really makes a difference in our lives and our spiritual walk. Imagine how you would feel if your kids, your employees, or whoever you have influence over in life would never argue or fuss, but simply obey because they know you have their best in mind. Now imagine how God feels when we simply trust He is always leading us into a great place. He is an extravagant God and gives us only His best.
